Another option of orthotic therapy is an Off-The-Shelf or a Prefabricated device which are adaptable and quick to manufacture. Theses are designed off site with the intent of being altered with minor adaptions which reduces the clinicians time in manufacturing excluding the need for major gluing and lamination without compromising the quality of material used. Whilst these devices are quick and relatively cheap they are not as durable as a customised device. There are paediatric specific prefabricated devices which are extremely useful for the treatment of non-developmental flatfoot, hypotonia and hypermobility as well as a specific gait plate device for assisting with in-toeing and tripping. Unfortunately, due to the prefabricated nature of the devices they have limitations when it comes to the treatment of gross asymmetries such as different foot types, limb lengths and gait angle variations.
