Radial Pressure Wave Therapy/Shockwave Therapy

Innovation Podiatry  >  Radial Pressure Wave Therapy/Shockwave Therapy

Radial Pressure Wave Therapy or Shockwave Therapy is a treatment modality that is used to improve chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive procedure that requires no anaesthetic with minimal discomfort experienced though out each treatment session. Most patients are able to return to their day-to-day activities straight after treatment.

Shockwave therapy works by introducing radial shockwaves (both low and high energy) to the injured tissue via a handheld applicator. By generating radial shockwaves towards the damaged area, the non-invasive shockwaves assist in accelerating the healing process by enabling damaged cells to be removed and replaced with healthy viable cells (cell regeneration & collagen synthesis).

A further benefit of Shockwave Therapy is an increase in metabolic tissue activity. Radial shockwave application assists in increased blood circulation within tissues. An increase in oxygen content can significantly reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the tissue to help further stimulate the healing process.
